Second to last meeting for the West Side at Bar XV this Wed. (14th) after work. Come on in and tell me how everything is all wrong!
West Side Invite 8 will be held this year on Memorial Day weekend (May 23rd-26th). This year we will be putting on a serious main race and the usual side events (i.e: track stuff, sprints, alleycats, and a single day/single elimination polo tourney). We are looking for folks to help plan and execute this event.
Mostly set schedule:
Fri: (4ish)Registration at Ash St. Saloon (It's $25)
(6ish)Opening Alleycat put on by Peaches and Gideon.
(after race)Socializing mixer party at B-Side
Sat: (10ish)Hopefully the coffee-cat (come on Tod!)
(Noonish)Track racing at Alpenrose (weather permitting)
(after racing)Partying and shenanigans at the park across the street from the track
(Heads up on changes in this day as if there is any rain we won't be going out to the track!!!)
(9ish)Party at a TBA location with whatever side events we can pull off and hopefully goldsprints of some variety
Sun: (noonish)Main race, grueling, all day and all-city starting at Col. Sumners Park. Back to the classics
(8ish) Awards at Bar XV.
Mon: (noonish) Single elimination West Side Polo Tourney and BBQ at Alberta Park
Any offers of help and/or money/sponsorship can be sent to C. Murder.
You must unlearn what you have learned.
Congrats to the racers from Zak and Dawn's Spandor vs. Messenger race this past weekend. The winners were:
1.Chazzy
2.Thud
3.Sharkie "Still lost up on Mt. Tabor somewhere"
4.Will
5.Steven Hunter (1st place Spandor)
Way to show those "racers" whose the boss.
"Chrome Aces" playing cards featuring Portland messengers are on sale at Veloshop for $10. All proceeds benefit PUMA and the Bicycle Messenger Emergency Fund.
Better late than never I guess. Squid is doing his Velocity tour again this year. New York and LA already happened but SF is happening soon. Check the website for more info.
Sweaty props go out to Mr. Going No Where Fast, Chaz Le Wazzy for holding it down at this year's Monster Track: 1st place gold sprint, 3rd place sprints. Give him a hug if you see him!
This is about the most comprehensive rule book about polo that I have ever read. Those Canadians sound pretty serious about this whole Bicycle Polo thing.
apologizes for you not interested in polo.
Way to win the Valentine's race Sharky. You are very fast and yet still look displeased even though you won. Next alleycat you get a handicap (I'm thinking weights in the bag or a half inflated tire).
Congratulations to Chas for winning at the GoldSprints this weekend. Showing those spandors (I hear a member of the National Team to boot) how we can ride really fast going nowhere. Anyone got pictures of him puking?..I mean, winning? I hear that Tad and Nerf did well for the messengers as well.
The Cycle Messenger World Championships XVI will be held in Toronto, Canada.
The NACCC will be in Chicago. It will be awesome.
The ECMC is in Eindhoven, Holland. Those Dutch kids are rather fast and they do look damn good in white skin suits.
PUMA- If you have received a ticket in the last month write down what happend and get a copy of the citation if possible. Keep it to the facts of the incident. We want to compile the tickets and written accounts by Friday November 9th at 6pm. You can drop them off for me (Tom) at the BTA office 233 NW 5th or pass them off to Hazel or Damian. This is not a BTA action but I'm going to try to get some help in putting together a strategy to approach the issue on multiple levels and find some resolution. It's worth a shot. Email me with questions or reports at: trousculp@gmail.com Cheers, Tom
The fifth annual NOISE ride was effin' awsome! We went to all new locations and did mostly new stupidity. Here are a few pictures from Thud and some of last year from R. Kelley Maceand Dabby. Get in touch with Thud if you have more good pix of this year you want to share.
Thanks to everyone who came out to the seventh West Side Invite! Also a big thanks to all our amazing volunteers and sponsors. Zak and S Murder defended their King and Queen of the Track belts, Sharky and Nerf won the tag team race on Sunday afternoon, Casey, Kenichi and Drew won the polo tournament 5-0 and everyone who managed to stick around for karaoke last night was a winner.
